Dumb Things To Never Do On A First Date
We get it, first dates are totally nerve-wracking. That gut-wrenching feeling that’s a mixture of butterflies and gas bubbles isn’t fun, especially as you walk into the bar or restaurant and encounter your date. Your mind is soon flooded with all these thoughts on if they’ll like you, will you have enough to talk about, will you get food in your teeth, etc. Then as you finally sit down after that weird first hug-half-hand-shake move, your heart really begins to race as you officially begin your date.
If you’re nervous about messing up your first date, here are some helpful tips on what to avoid so that you don’t look like a dumb ass:
1. Act like you were raised in a barn
You probably grew up learning all about good and bad manners, so don’t throw them out the window the minute you first see your date. Never, ever, exhibit poor manners on a first date…unless you’d like to cut the date short and turn them off. Don’t pick food between your teeth with your fingers or fork, don’t talk with your mouth full, don’t take your phone out and start texting while in the middle of the conversation or do anything else that makes it seem as if you grew up in a barn.
2. Bring a friend along
Make sure you actually understand that you’re going on a date and don’t try to bring your best friend along for moral support. It’s a date, not a casual hang out. It’ll be super awkward if you brought a third wheel along and probably won’t get a second chance after pulling such a move.
3. Drown yourself in perfume
Although you want to make sure you smell good for your big date, the last thing you want to do is go overboard with Chanel No. 5. Your date will probably give you the weird side eye if he can smell you all the way from the street, no matter how good it smells.
4. Act like your sh*t doesn’t stink
You know you’re a catch but don’t overdo it by acting like your God’s gift the earth. No one wants to date someone who is full of their own sh*t, so the more down-to-earth you are, the better your chances of getting asked out again are!
5. Flirt with other people
Don’t be rude and flirt with other people when on a date. This includes starring at the hot bartender, slipping your number to the waiter or locking eyes with the cutie on the other side of the room the entire time you’re on a date. If your date isn’t as cool as you’d like, at least be kind for the remainder of the date before you pick up on tomorrow’s dinner date.
You’d be surprised to know how many people screw up a first date by doing some pretty dumb things. Don’t be one of those dumb and annoying daters and follow the tips to better your chances of getting a second date!
